Who Will be the Raiders Backup QB?

Image
Who will backup Derek Carr? The position of backup QB is crucial to the success of every NFL team. I am going to assume Derek Carr returns as starter but Marcus Mariota may well look for a more competitive situation (and more $$) next year.  The Raiders may well look towards familiarity with the Josh McDaniels system in order to assist Derek Carr on the practice field and also a QB with the ability to step up as starter at short notice. Below I take a look at some of the candidates.  Jacoby Brissett (former Patriot) Brian Hoyer (former Patriot) Cam Newton (former Patriot) Andy Dalton  Geno Smith

Raiders Mock Draft 2.0

Image
Treylon Burks, Arkansas The biggest needs for the Raiders are WR, DL and LB and as ever free agency in March will dictate the picks in the later rounds. I've selected a prodigious WR talent for the Raiders 1st round pick, Treylon Burks. I've sought to bolster the LB corp and offensive line whilst looking to solidify the long term backup QB position. Roll on April!!!!

Derek Carr New Contract?

Image
Ian Rappaport's report that the Raiders are to give Derek Carr a contract extension is news to be welcomed. I'm not necessarily a 'Carr Stan' but I am a realist. While Derek Carr is no Josh Allen or Pat Mahomes he is assuredly a top tier QB   Carr is a top 10 to 15 QB on an average season, and a 5 to 10 QB on a good one. Last season he won clutch games galore. Statistically he fell away in the latter part of the season but the absence of Darren Waller through injury and Henry Ruggs through tragedy can partially explain this drop off. I predict Derek Carr will get a contract in the region of $100m over 3 years with $65m guaranteed and the Raiders solidify the most important position in the team for the foreseeable future.

So with the Super Bowl over and the Rams becoming the 2nd Los Angeles team to win 😉, attention now focuses to the Draft. Here is my Mock 1. Biggest needs for the Raiders appear to be WR, DL, OL and LB -  it's all about finding starters and future stars.
