Ryan Mason: Literally One of Our Own

Tottenham Hotspur will go into Sunday's
League Cup Final with a rookie 29 year old in only his second game as manager.

I think we can call this unprecedented.

Ryan Mason's story is well known and extensively told. It is a truly remarkable rise for an unassuming, level headed, modern thinking, ego less, life long Spurs fan. In many respects the antithesis of Jose Mourinho.

Yesterday Mason was asked for his thoughts on the final by Alasdair Gold of Football London. His response was the response of a man who understands the history of Tottenham Hotspur.

"If we don’t get over the line on Sunday, we still have our identity and our DNA as a football club. That’s the most important thing.

They're a great team with great players. But we have great players too. And they know that"

The club is in his DNA.

Tottenham face a mammoth task on Sunday. Manchester City are the richest club in the world, bankrolled by an oil rich Middle Eastern emirate state with a dubious human rights history. 80% of their transfer fees and wages have been funded by their Abu Dhabi owners. For ENIC the figure is 1% (Curiously Arsenal 0%). To be honest Manchester City are no longer a football club but rather a sports washing vehicle for Sheikh Mansour et al.

All that being said, and regardless of the outcome on Sunday, Spurs fans should revel in the fact that we have the privilege of being lead by one of our own.
