Daniel Levy's Failed Leadership Hinders Tottenham Hotspur Manager Search
Six days before a cup final, which Spurs ultimately lost to Manchester City.
Since then Daniel Levy has attempted to hire three managers (not including Eric ten Haag who signed a new contract at Ajax and Brendan Rodgers who publicly declared he was staying at Leicester City).
Julian Nagelsman
In the immediate aftermath of Mourinho's firing Spurs were closely linked to the Leipzig coach. A short few weeks late Bayern Munich hired Nagelsman to end Levy's search for his preferred candidate
Mauricio Pochettino
The former Spurs manager is said to be unhappy in Paris so Levy moved to re-hire the former fan favourite. But PSG were not for turning and despite contact between Pochettino and Levy the deal fell through.
Those three words are synonymous with Daniel Levy. Too often deals fall through.
Antonio Conte
And so Tottenham reached out to the Italian manager superstar to bring the glory days back to N17. Conte is a serial winner, as in league titles not top 4 finishes. He wanted Levy to match his ambition meaning he wanted a major injection of transfer funds. For Tottenham to challenge Man City and Chelsea we would need to keep Harry Kane and for ENIC to spend circa £400m on new players.
This is what Conte wanted but Daniel Levy balked.
Can Tottenham Hotspur compete financially with City and Chelsea? Of course not. We're not owned by an oligarch/Middle Eastern oil producing country.
Tottenham Hotspur need a manager to get the most out of lesser resources in the style of Pochettino 2015 to 2019.
Conte was never going to be that man. But why then did Levy enter negotiations with the Italian?
I have absolutely no idea but as of right now Tottenham Hotspur are a managerless laughing stock and it's all down to one man.
I once worked in recruitment. A successful recruiter knows how to find the right job for the right person. The history of this lamentable manager search thus far illustrates that Daniel Levy is out of his depth at the art of targeted recruitment.
In doing so he has turned Tottenham Hotspur into a football farce.
